Northland’s three district councils are making progress in the establishment of a new council controlled water organisation, which will be responsible for delivering drinking water and wastewater services across the region.

An upgrade to Kaikohe’s water treatment plant is underway with the installation of piping to create a new inlet and outlet from the Taraire Hills Dam, as well as bulk earthworks to form the platform for the upgraded water treatment plant.

Expect to see the race to win votes in the local election heating up in this final week, but there’s a parallel race underway in Northland – a competition to see which district gets the highest voter turnout.

Traffic management will be in place overnight along part of Mangamuka Road, resulting in longer-than-usual wait periods, while the Far North District Council’s roading contractor carries out slip repairs.

A hīkoi to mark Mental Health Awareness Week will travel through the main business centre of Kaitāia on Monday 6 October.
