Tuia Rangatahi Leadership Programme
The Tuia Rangatahi Leadership Programme, associated with the Mayor's Taskforce for Jobs, is an intentional, long term, intergenerational approach to develop the leadership capacity of rangatahi Māori throughout New Zealand.

Far North District Council is seeking a rangatahi Māori to represent our district in the Tuia Rangatahi Leadership Programme.
As our district’s Tuia representative, you’ll be mentored directly by Kahika Moko Tepania and Cr Arohanui Allen, attend five national wānanga across Aotearoa (all costs covered), and join a group of emerging Māori leaders from around the motu.
About the programme
Tuia creates opportunities for rangatahi and local leaders to learn alongside one another. Through regular mentoring and national wānanga, participants build confidence, civic leadership skills and peer networks.
Wānanga dates
- March: Wānanga one – Tuia i runga (weaving above), Waikato
- May: Wānanga two – Tuia i raro (weaving below), Waiariki / Bay of Plenty
- July: Wānanga three – Tuia i roto (weaving within), Te Waipounamu
- September: Wānanga four – Tuia i waho (weaving without),Hawke’s Bay
- November: Wānanga five – Tuia te here tangata (weaving the threads of humanity), Wellington
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who:
- is a rangatahi Māori and aged between 18-25 years
- is actively involved or has a desire to contribute to the wellbeing of their community
- can commit to being involved in this part-time programme for a minimum of 12 months
- has an interest in leadership and local decision‑making.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a 30‑minute kōrero (in person or online) with a final candidate appointed by Wednesday 4 March 2026.
