Two detours of separate short sections of Pou Herenga Tai – Twin Coast Cycle Trail have lifted in time for trail users to enjoy the popular tourist attraction throughout the summer holidays – one permanently.

Summer is upon us and that got us thinking about how planning for a happy holiday is a bit like planning for a thriving future when our climate is changing.

Summer in the Far North is a special time, as whānau flock to the coast to enjoy the sunshine, often with their dogs in tow. With beaches being busier over the holiday period, we would like to remind dog owners that a little extra care helps everyone enjoy a safe and relaxed summer.

A proposal to locate a new dump station for caravan and motorhome owners visiting Kerikeri at Te Puāwaitanga Bay of Islands Sports Hub was endorsed by the local community board during its meeting today (Wednesday 17 December).

Retailers are doing their bit to get the water conservation message out to residents and visitors by displaying the council’s Tiaki ngā wai-branded signs. The signs outline what the council’s four water restriction levels mean, what restriction level currently applies to that town and, through simple icons, explain what water use is allowed at each level.

A new rent-setting approach has been confirmed that will better support elderly tenants while keeping the council-run Housing for the Elderly service affordable for ratepayers.

The hugely successful State of the Far North is back, so mark your calendars. A district-wide ‘Save the date’ notice was issued on Friday 12 December so leaders in Te Ao Māori, business, politics, and all interested residents can plan ahead to attend this milestone event.
