Roma Marae next in whenua Māori hui series

The fourth hui in a series for Māori landowners, whānau, and anyone interested in preserving and managing whenua Māori will be held on Monday 7 April at Roma Marae, Ahipara.
The Roma Marae hui will continue to build on the success of prior whenua Māori information sessions held in Whatuwhiwhi last month and Panguru and Moerewa last year. A highlight of those events was the tailored advice provided to landowners by representatives of Te Kooti Whenua Māori / Māori Land Court. To complement this kaupapa, further information will be provided at Roma Marae.
Council staff will also be available for one-on-one discussions to answer specific questions for whānau at the hui. Charlie Billington, Group Manager - Corporate Services, says the hui continue to share information and strengthen connections between the council and whenua Māori owners.
“Feedback from our previous sessions has been very positive. We’re excited to keep these conversations going and help whānau realise the potential of their whenua.”
The series kicked off last November at Waipuna Marae in Panguru followed by Ōtiria Marae in December and Haitataimarangai Marae last month. Incredible manaaki shown by all three local communities continues to make this a favoured event for staff to attend. Thanks go out to all those who participated.
Roma Marae is located at 136 Roma Road, Ahipara. Locals are encouraged to head straight inside upon arrival in time for a pōwhiri to be held at 3pm sharp.
To ensure the hui goes ahead, Te Rarawa Marae will be available as a backup venue if needed.
