Blessing as Kaikohe Library and Civic Hub gets underway

A blessing of the site of the new Kaikohe Library and Civic Hub building was held on Tuesday 26 August 2025.

Hapū, locals, and council representatives gathered at the site on the corner of Broadway and Raihara Street in Kaikohe for a earth turning ceremony to mark the beginning of construction.

The contract for the new library and community hub was awarded to local company Henwood Construction Limited (HCL) during the council’s July meeting, after a tender process conducted by Far North Holdings Limited (FNHL), which is managing the project on behalf of the council.

HCL was established in Kaikohe in 1993. The company has previous experience delivering projects of similar size and scope on time and on budget with FNHL and has demonstrated experience working with hapū. More than 75 per cent of its workforce currently live in Kaikohe and all its proposed subcontractors are based in the Far North District.
