Manaaki Recovery Hub initiative supports weather worn communities

Manaaki Recovery Hubs are being set up across the Far North to provide multi-agency support directly to communities and whānau affected by the recent severe weather.

The Rae ki te Rae  (face to face) Manaaki Recovery Hubs are a community-centred, marae-based approach where information, advice, and support related to welfare, accommodation, financial assistance, wellbeing, and wider recovery matters, can be easily accessed. This approach avoids the need for storm-affected whānau to navigate multiple systems independently.

The initiative is part of the Civil Defence transition from an emergency to a recovery response, following recent severe weather in the district.

The community‑led delivery of this kaupapa alongside hapū and marae enables staff from several government agencies to have oversight of services needing to be delivered at a local level.

Northland Regional Council and Civil Defence Emergency Management Group Office are leading the coordination of this work at a regional level, in close partnership with Far North District Council, iwi and community partners.
