Three slip repairs begin on district roads

Three slip repair projects have kicked off this week, two on Wainui Road near Matauri Bay and the third on Whangae Road near Kawakawa. All are likely to cause some delays for travellers.

Contractors, Total Infrastructure Ltd, will begin work on Whangae Road this week. These repairs are essential to stabilise the road and ensure road user safety. The work is expected to run until 28 June. One-lane access with traffic controls will be in place Mondays to Saturdays, 7am to 6pm. Drivers are asked to slow down and follow directions from roading staff.

Meanwhile, United Civil Construction has this week launched a significant slip repair project on Wainui Road, near Matauri Bay. This will run from 26 May through to 8 August (weather dependent), and involves deep excavation, building a new retaining wall, and full pavement rebuild with chipseal. Traffic management will be in place during the works from Monday to Saturday, 7am to 6pm.

CLL Solutions is also starting a second slip repair on Wainui Road. This involves building a reinforced concrete retaining wall to stabilise the area and protect the road from future slips. This will include installing 42 concrete piles approximately 8m deep, followed by construction of a capping beam and new drainage systems. Once this is complete, the road will be rebuilt and sealed.

All sites will have traffic controllers onsite. Residents are being contacted directly where their access will be affected by the work.
