New working group to address North Hokianga roading

A working group formed to tackle road maintenance and improvement concerns in the North Hokianga region met earlier this month.
Far North District Council staff, councillors, and community members met at Te Kura Taumata o Panguru for the first meeting to discuss how to assist and support the local surrounding communities.
The group’s main focus is significant slips in Whangapē, Pawarenga Road, Mōtuti, and Panguru. The roading updates will include maintenance works.
Discussions at the first meeting included news that the Northland Transport Alliance (NTA) had been disbanded, with responsibilities returning to Far North District Council. The group also discussed a new contractor panel system and recognised the importance of community feedback and ongoing hapū involvement in the decision-making process.
More decisions will be made at the next monthly meeting on 12 October.
