Careers, training showcased at jobs expo

New career paths, training, and education will be showcased at Northland’s first Job Explore careers expo next week.

New career paths, training, and education will be showcased at Northland’s first Job Explore careers expo next week.

More than 30 organisations, including Far North District Council, are taking part in the expo in Kaikohe (28 February) and Kaitāia (29 February), which aims to connect job seekers with potential employers as well as helping those keen to explore education opportunities and training.

Far North Kahika Mayor Moko Tepania and Deputy Mayor Kōwhai Kelly Stratford will be on hand at the Kaikohe event in Memorial Hall to promote the Mayor’s Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ).

MTFJ is partnered with the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) to lead the Rural Community Resilience Programme that supports youth aged 16-24 who are not in education, employment, or training, are disadvantaged or living with disabilities.

Council staff will be at both the Kaikohe and Kaitāia expos, spotlighting the range of career opportunities at the council and what the organisation can offer as an employer.

As well as Far North District Council, other organisations taking part include NZ Defence, Fire and Emergency, NZ Police, Department of Corrections, Sport Northland, North Tec, and Te Wānanga o Aotearoa.

Education and training providers will have information about apprenticeships and courses and help those who need support with interview techniques and writing CVs.

It is hoped the expos, organised by Connected NZ and MSD, will be a fun, interactive way for people of all ages and experiences to explore the options available in the district and elsewhere. Expect to see the Inzone Careers Bus and delve into virtual reality with the VR Headset team, as well as a sausage sizzle and spot prizes.

The Far North expos are at Memorial Hall, Kaikohe, on 28 February from 1pm-3.30pm, and at Kaitāia on 29 February at the Te Ahu Centre from 12pm-3.30pm.

Whangārei is hosting its expo on 27 February at Te Ora Hou Centre on 27 February from 12pm-3.30pm.
