A timeline of key project phases is below.
November 2025
- Foundation slab pour.
December 2025
- framing begins for exterior and roof
- structural steel grids begin to be installed.
February 2026
- installation of structural steel grids completed
- framing completed for exterior, roof, exterior verandah and soffit
- roof fitted
- exterior cladding begins.
March 2026
- interior lining begins
- carpark construction and landscaping beings
- installation of aluminium joinery.
April 2026
- exterior cladding installation completed.
Mid to late 2026
- interior fit out begins
- interior lining completed
- interior fitout completed
- carpark and landscaping completed.
October 2025
- Prep for foundation slab
August 2025
- Construction commences on Tuesday 26 August.
July 2025
- Recommendation to award construction and civil contract approved by the council.
June 2025
- Evaluation of pricing completed.
March 2025
- Design submitted for council approval of tender process
- Building consent issued.
July to October 2024
- Contractor appointed for demolition
- Demolition begins (mid July)
- Demolition ends (September)
- Concept design signed off
- Costings plan and full project timeline completed
- Resource consent and building consent process begins.
June 2024
- Tenders close for the contract to demolish the buildings on the site where the new library will be located.
May 2024
- Design brief confirmed
- Design team appointed
- Draft design process is expected to take five months.
