Santa’s road closure wish list for Far North parades

Santa’s arrival at a Christmas Parade near you is imminent. Even in November? You better believe it.

To ensure Santa’s sleigh, his entourage of helpers, and all those parcels of Christmas joy have easy access to the Far North, we’re helping him out by closing a few roads. Not every parade requires road closures, however. Only two towns, Kaikohe and Paihia, will have restricted traffic access to keep Santa lovers safe. The information below, is our present to you.

Friday 29 November - Kaikohe

Christmas officially kicks off in the Far North with an afternoon parade in Kaikohe. Roads closures run from 3pm to 9pm and include Memorial Avenue, Raihara Street (from Recreation Road to Memorial Avenue) and Station Road (from Memorial to Recreation Road).

Friday 6December - Paihia

Santa’s sleigh might be moving at a snail’s pace to reach Paihia a whole week later, but he’ll arrive with full parade pizzazz from 3pm. Williams Road between numbers 25 to 37, will close from 3pm to 7pm. Santa then truly kicks into high gear to complete his Far North festivities.

Christmas Parades not requiring road closures:

  • Friday 6 December – Moerewa at Simson Park, from 6pm to 8:30pm.
  • Saturday 7 December - Kaitāia A & P Showgrounds from 4-9pm. This event will include live music and a fireworks display.
  • Saturday 7 December - Kerikeri, Christmas Variety Show and Tree Lighting at Kerikeri Domain, from 6pm.
  • Sunday 8 December – Kawakawa at Hundertwasser Memorial Park, from 2pm to 6pm.
