Big Te Hiku events share in $40k community funding

Six community groups were granted a share of more than $40,000 in funding during Te Hiku Community Board’s meeting on Tuesday 18 February.
Te Hapua Sports and Recreation Club, a local hub for community and sports events, will undertake major drainage works around their clubrooms and sports field after securing a $17,250 grant.
Ōpononi Area School received $7300 towards the 50th anniversary of Te Tai Tokerau Kapa Haka Festival. Part of the grant will be used to assist Te Hiku Ward schools with entry costs to enable them to take part. Event organisers have applied to all three Far North community boards as the event is district wide. They received a further $5000 from Creative Communities, $10,000 from Kaikohe-Hokianga Community Board and $7500 from the Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board.
Other community groups to receive funding for events were:
- $6500 to Kaitāia Primary School for marquee hire to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Kaitāia Primary School.
- $6000 to Youthline Auckland Charitable Trust for its national call centre, with information indicating its expected to help at least 251 rangatahi in Te Hiku Ward.
- $1948 to Kaitāia and Districts Agricultural and Pastoral Association for their 2025 Show.
- $1500 to Kaitāia MetalFest 2025.
The next Te Hiku Community Board meeting will be held on Tuesday 18 March at Te Ahu. It can be watched live on the council’s Facebook and YouTube pages from 10am.
