Set sail on the Bay of islands cruisers festival

Landlubbers can get a taste of life on the ocean waves this week with the launch of the Bay of Islands Cruisers Festival at Bay of Islands Marina at Ōpua.

The six-day extravaganza, which offers a unique blend of maritime experiences, sets sail today Monday 18 November and runs until Saturday 23 November.

The festival focuses on the district’s economically important boating community and invites novices, enthusiasts, and international and local sailors to immerse themselves in a world of maritime knowledge and adventure.

Attendees can look forward to a packed schedule featuring a traditional Māori welcome and engaging marine seminars showcasing the latest innovations in boating and marine technology. They can also board a cruise ship lifeboat to explore the historic Waitangi Treaty Grounds where they can learn about the history of Aotearoa New Zealand at a discounted rate.

The week-long maritime adventure includes the Pacific Cruisers Cup cruiser race, which visits some of the most beautiful vistas on offer in the Bay of Islands, ahead of the grand finale party.

Numerous BBQs and get togethers will be held throughout the festival featuring plenty of fun, food and prizes. You can read more information here and purchase tickets here.
