Kaikohe Library targeted twice in a month

Kaikohe’s public library has been attacked for a second time in four weeks – this time by a youth throwing a boulder through a glass entrance door.
CCTV captured the moment during the early hours of Monday morning, 16 December, when a shirtless male approached the library carrying a boulder and immediately threw it through a large glass pane in the front door. He then walked away.
The latest incident came after two people were arrested recently by NZ Police following a break-in and theft of property from the library on 15 November, also after hours. Two computer monitors were taken during the break-in but have since been recovered.
That incident caused damage costing ratepayers $2200 to repair. The cost to repair damage from the latest attack is estimated to be around $1500 and will again be borne by ratepayers.
Anyone with information regarding this latest incident should contact the police.
