Partnerships with council

The council is committed to working with local iwi and hapū. The purpose of a partnership agreement is to establish, confirm and strengthen relationships and to develop mutual respect and provide continuity through a shared vision.

At State of the Far North in February 2026, Councillor Tāmati Rākena gave an overview of the series of agreements made with iwi and hapū to formalise their relationships with the council.

So what do these agreements allow the council to do, and how do they benefit the whole community? Watch the video below to find out.

You can watch that full presentation of State of the Far North 2026: Shifting Gears - The Road Ahead' here.

Below are documents which formalise some of the relationship agreements made between the council, iwi and hapū.
