Colour Run a ‘bomb’ of fun

A blaze of colour will fill the air along the Paihia waterfront this Saturday 23 March when the BOI Rotary Club Colour Fun Run gets underway at Horotutu Reserve from 10am.
Runners will transform into rainbows as they are showered with colour ‘bombs’ when passing through stations along the route. Don’t worry – no runners or their clothes will be harmed in the making of this fun run – colour bombs are made with corn starch powder so will wash out.
All participants will receive a medal. Spot prizes, donated by local businesses, are another big draw card and include a helicopter ride, a Bluetooth speaker, a boat trip to Otehei Bay, and vouchers from local restaurants.
The almost 5km run begins and ends at Horotutu Reserve (next to the wharf in Paihia) and travels along the beach front between Waitangi and the far end of Paihia Beach. Walking, jogging, skipping, and even hopping are positively encouraged at the all-ages-and-abilities event.
The Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board granted $1460 towards the annual fun run.
Tickets cost $50 for adults, students are $30, family passes $120, and kids under five years-old are free.
Money raised will go towards community projects, which in the past have included the installation of barbeques as well as sprucing up local buildings.
Colour Run events are held throughout the world and are inspired by the Hindu festival of Holi.
