VIDEO – 2025 election: Stand up, your voice, your choice

Do you have what it takes to represent your community? That’s what Far North residents will be asked in October this year when local elections take place across Aotearoa by postal vote.

Now is the right time to consider being a candidate in the upcoming local elections. Elected members influence decisions on essential infrastructure, public services, community facilities, parks, and other services that impact daily life.

Those who are passionate about their community and interested in contributing to its development are urged to consider standing.

If this sounds like you, a Candidate Information Session will be held at 6pm on Wednesday 25 June at Te Kona, Digital Business and Learning Hub (74 Guy Road in Kaikohe.)

The session is designed to give potential candidates essential information about the nomination and election process, with guidance from our Electoral Officer and an expert panel. Attendees will hear from experienced elected officials about the responsibilities of an elected member and gain a better understanding of how governance and operations work together to achieve community aspirations.

Contact elections@fndc.govt.nz for further information or visit the Facebook event page here.

Anyone from the public interested in standing as a candidate can find helpful resources, including short videos and learning modules about local government roles and responsibilities, through Local Government New Zealand’s online ĀKONA platform.
