Te Hiku Community Board allocates Xmas funding

Four community groups will be celebrating after Te Hiku Community Board granted them a share of $12,000 in funding during its 22 October meeting.

Ahipara Aroha Inc was granted $5757 towards the costs of running a series of movie nights in the park at Ahipara over summer. The movie nights are scheduled for Saturday 21 December, 4 and 18 January and the last event on 1 February 2025.

Bald Angels Charitable Trust was granted $3000 towards kai (food) boxes that will be distributed to more than 400 whanau across the district over the Christmas period. Angel Kai Boxes contain staple dry and canned pantry items, cleaning and hygiene products, fresh vegetables and frozen meat, plus a basic recipe book produced by the charity’s volunteers.

Each whānau receives Kai Boxes and a gift for each tamariki/rangatahi. Families are identified through partner agencies and support is provided along with the contents of the boxes. Partner agencies are iwi kaimahi, social workers and professionals who are trained to wrap further support around the whānau.

Other community groups receiving funding for events are:

  • Kaitāia College – $2487 towards safety harnesses and volleyball nets to use (initially) at the annual year-10 camp and then for other school activities.
  • Kaitāia A&P Association – $944 towards a family fun day to take place on Labour Weekend.

The next Te Hiku Community Board meeting will be held on Tuesday 22 October at Te Ahu. It can be watched live on the council’s Facebook and YouTube pages from 10am.
