Footpath upgrade for Paihia CBD

Footpath renewal works on Williams Road in Paihia are due to begin today (Wednesday 16 September) with council maintenance contractors, Ventia, carrying out the work.

The existing concrete footpath on the north side of the one-way section of Williams Road will be removed and replaced. The works are expected to take approximately 14 days, weather permitting. This is a part of the footpath renewal schedule and is due an upgrade because it is a high foot traffic area.

Williams Road will remain open to vehicles during daylight hours, with the majority of the work scheduled for evenings from 6pm – 6am to reduce disruption to local businesses. The one-way section of Williams Road will be closed to vehicle traffic during night works. Traffic management will be in place.

The work will include removing street furniture, excavating and removing the existing concrete footpath, and laying a new concrete surface. Pedestrian access will be maintained wherever possible, although people moving through the area are asked to follow signs and take care around the work site.

Some construction noise is unavoidable particularly during evening works, and council appreciates the patience of businesses, residents, pedestrians and motorists while the footpath is renewed.
