Council honours Jim Peters and Rihari “Dick” Dargaville

Far North District Council acknowledges the passing of Jim Peters MNZM and Richard Dargaville, both respected community members whose lifelong services made a lasting contribution to the Far North.

Jim Peters made an outstanding contribution to education, local government, and public service, including his years as Principal of Northland College in Kaikohe and as a member of Parliament.

Rihari “Dick” Dargaville was a highly respected Ngāpuhi kaumātua whose guidance and service were valued by many throughout Te Tai Tokerau. His contribution stretched across many areas, including politics and his involvement with the New Zealand Defence Force.

As a mark of respect, flags outside Far North District Council offices will be flown at half-mast tomorrow (18 September) in recognition of their service and dedication to the Far North community.

The council extends its condolences to the whānau and friends of the pair, and to all those whose lives they touched.

E te rangatira, e moe i roto i te rangimārie / esteemed leaders rest in peace.
