Check your inbox – invitations to celebrate the official opening of the new Kaikohe Library and Civic Hub have been sent.

The much-anticipated facility in the heart of Kaikohe officially opens its doors on Monday 9 November, marking an exciting new chapter for the town.

Community members, whānau, schools, local businesses and organisations, and proud locals will be coming together to mark the occasion.

The day kicks off at 5.30am with a formal blessing and opening ceremony followed by opportunities to explore the new facility, guided tours, community activities, kai, entertainment and tamariki-friendly experiences. The library and hub will officially open for business from 2pm.

“This is a really significant milestone for Kaikohe and for everyone who has been involved in bringing this project to life,” says Ruben Garcia, Group Manager – Community and Engagement. “We’ve always wanted this to be much more than just a new library, it’s a welcoming, flexible community space where people can learn, connect, create and access important Council services in one place.

“We’re incredibly proud of what has been created here, and 9 November is an opportunity for the whole community to come in, experience the new facility for themselves and celebrate what is a fantastic new asset for Kaikohe.”

The library and hub at 69 Broadway will be a place of learning, connection, and creativity with a range of activities from library collections to a creative Makerspace for kids, meeting rooms, a gaming room, a pop-up recording studio, and a café.

The Kaikohe Council Service Centre is also relocating from the council headquarters building into the library and civic hub, further strengthening the building’s role as a central hub and access point for local services. To find out more about this $14.6 million project, head to our website.
