Final pieces falling into place at new Kaikohe hub
Building work on the Kaikohe Library and Civic Hub is nearing its closing chapters ahead of its much-anticipated opening next month.
Most of the outdoor pathways are now finished, while work on the access ramp and frontage is approaching completion. Landscaping and carpark works are also progressing well.
Inside the building, tiling work has finished, and the carpet laying is almost complete. The final interior fit-out begins late this month.
Far North Holdings, a team of architects and designers, including Kaikohe’s ĀKAU design studio, Eclipse Architecture and GMC Architects, developed the plans after extensive consultation with the community and support of the project’s governance steering group.
With work now in the final stages, attention is turning to the official unveiling of the new facility on Monday 9 November.
The day kicks off at 5.30am with a formal blessing and opening ceremony, followed by opportunities to explore the facility, guided tours, community activities, kai, entertainment and tamariki-friendly experiences. The library and hub, which is on the corner of Broadway and Raihara Street, will officially open for business from 2pm.
If you haven’t yet received an invitation but you would like to be a part of the opening day fun, just RSVP here.
The library and hub will be a place of learning, connection, and creativity with a range of activities from library collections to a creative Makerspace for kids, meeting rooms, a gaming room, a pop-up recording studio, and a café.
