If you have registered your dog for the new registration year and your dog's record is not currently showing in the app, please be assured that your dog remains registered with Far North District Council.

Your dog’s new tag is here for the long run, with no expiry date, and made to stay with them for life. You’ll still renew your registration each year, but you’ll enjoy a more sustainable, long-lasting solution. These innovative tags provide 24/7 access to Doggone’s dedicated text-based reunite service, helping ensure lost or wandering dogs are quickly and safely returned to their owners.
When a lost dog is found, it’s as easy as sending a free text to 4133 with the dog’s registration number. The finder will receive an instant reply, with a link to the owner’s chosen contact number, along with any important medical or behaviour information about the dog.
How does Doggone works for dog owners?
Getting started is simple:
- Download the free Doggone app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Create an account using the same email address your dog is registered with.
- View your dog profiles in the app.
To enjoy free access to Doggone’s text reunite service, please ensure you provided consent to share your contact details.
You can update your consent preferences and contact number at any time in the Doggone app.
Other features of the app include:
- the option to customise and update your pet’s profile.
- share important medical or behavioural information about your pet with a finder.
- receive important dog registration and animal welfare notifications from council, along with reminders about your pet’s vaccinations, worming and even their birthday!

Please note, we recommend dogs do not wear a metal tag alongside their dog registration tag to prevent any potential rubbing.
