May 2026 decisions

Community board decisions in May reflected the diversity of our communities, the range of activities that bring communities together and the support needed to provide equipment and facilities that improve the lives of Far Northerners.

From cemetery care to golf course maintenance, from upgrading playgrounds to upgrading Civil Defence equipment, from big loud and brash theatre productions to pest control. It's all going on in the Far North!

  • $10,000 was granted to Herekino Cemetery Commitee for the purchase of equipment for care of the cemetery
  • $10,000 to Mangōnui Netball Centre for a sound system for the netball courts
  • $8050 to Houhora Golf Club for the repair of a greens machine.

  • $15,000 granted to Sharree Wilkinson for a kura dome roof so the building can host wānanga and hauora activities for the wider community
  • $10,000 to upgrade the playground at Kaikohe Plunket to make it more accessible and usable for tamariki
  • $4000 to Savour Northland for the 2026 food festival promotion and events in the Kaikohe-Hokianga Ward
  • $2380 to Rāwene Community Hall for Civil Defence upgrades to better meet community needs when it is used as an evacuation centre in emergencies.

  • $12,500 granted to Kerikeri Theatre Company towards the production of the Rocky Horror Picture Show
  • $1331 to The Centre for a Ngā Taonga Tākaro Workshop school holiday workshops in the lead up to Matariki 2026
  • $678 to Ōpua Pest Plant Patrol / Bay Bush Action Trust for an educational brochure and safety vests.
